The Symbolism of Samuel
“Is it time now, Heavenly Father?”
Inquires the humble Son.
“To send forth a worthy prophet;
And priestly garb to don?”
“Yes! For behold, Hannah!
She pleads Me for a boy.
And says, “if I am granted,
He the temple will employ.
All the moments of his life
In service are for Thee.
Oh, hear Thy servant here below!
Elohim, receive my earnest plea!”
“Oh, yes, I hear thee daughter,
Priest Eli, draw her nigh.
Tell her I delight to answer;
I hear from heaven on high!
A child she’ll bear safely –
Samuel: Asked of Me;
A lifelong devoted servant;
Advisor to those kingly.
And yet, not a priest only,
But a prophet; yea, My Voice!
He’ll speak to men of greatness
And anoint those of My choice.
Behold, when he is three of age
And lying down, asleep,
I will call him several times
By name – behold him creep
Up and hasten to another room
To awaken resting Eli.
“Sir! I am here! Thou called?”
“No, for surely it was I!”
I call him for My service,
To be My voice on earth.
Spirit fall; He I claim;
He was a gift from birth.”
