Symbolism of the Patriarch (Isaac)
“Is it time, majestic Father?”
Queries the Son, anointed.
“That Abram’s line continue
Through whom Thou hast appointed?”
“Yea, My Son, after Abraham
Isaac is My people’s father.
Abraham bids his servant find
Isaac a Jewish wife. He’d rather
His son kept faith with the people, Mine.
Hear his servant pray in kind:”
“Show me if she is the chosen,
O Elohim in heavenly quarter!
Let the girl approach me first
And offer the camels water!
For such a task that would be –
To serve not only I
But all that labours with me!”
“Son, I urge daughter Rebekah
‘Hurry to the stranger there.’
Recognizing My permission,
He guides her into Isaac’s care.
“Isaac, marry Rebekah; through her
I promise thee the Nations.”
“He lays with Rebekah, but to dismay,
Nothing’s born of the relation.
“Isaac, I hear thine voice Me pleading:
“Visit my wife for child, I pray.”
“Well done My son, thou asks Me first.
That will always restore the Way!
Glory! How I rejoice to grant
What thou petitions Me – a son!
Behold, more than thou plead is given;
Twins through whom My Grace shall run.”
