The Symbolism of King David
“Is it time now, glorious Father?”
Wonders the righteous Son.
“Is it time that I depart
That My mission may be done?”
“Nearly, Son, nearly, but no.
I have several symbols for Thee:
The Only Way; Redeemer, and – Lo!
Another I have: King!
Eternal king with endless throne.
Hear My servant David sing!
In the line of kings Ye shall be born;
From his lineage Ye shalt come,
A kingly heritage on earth:
Eternal King from a heavenly home.
Stay by Me yet a while, and watch.
Samuel goes to deliver My Word,
He approves the firstborn and mighty!
No! Seek the youngest whose psalm is his sword!
Anoint him quickly, My Spirit to rest.
He was a shepherd boy… now a king!
A shepherd leads flocks; a king, loyal men.
My Son shall do both! Heaven ring!
My Son is the Shepherd King; Alleluia!
“See how David waits upon Me;
Listens for My heavenly voice!
Delights in Me and My command;
He worships Me by choice!
He trusts Me in the heat of battle,
I’m never from his thought.
“David, thy lowly city of Bethlehem
Shall by great kings be sought.
From thy descendants shall come a Son –
My Son – the choicest of all.
Through Him thy people shall triumph;
Eternal lineage begin in humble stall.
