Corruption

 Lo, Eve approaches the tree;

The Centre-Tree that bears death.

Pleasant to gaze upon; sweet in taste,

She’ll regret this until her last breath.

No, I must not stay her hand –

It’s her freedom to decide.

Even now she plucks the fruit –

And bites – to find the tempter lied.

O, have I not spoke oft’ with them?

Provided all and more?

Did not I reveal Myself and Thee?

Such blessings I had in store!

They were My blessed creation.

O, Son! Grief tears My Heart.

But My love has founded a solution

Of which Thee’s centre-part.”

“They must depart the Garden, Father,

Lest they eat of the Tree of Life

And live eternally in their sin.

But I’ll share thy future years of strife,

So human beings, fret thee not!

They shall end, and thee will enter in

To Our Eternal Garden: I’ll take thy lot;

Cursed on the Tree of Life in thy place

And deliver the children of Adam’s race.”

“Yes, My people, what He says is true:

Blood will be spilt in payment for you.

Adam, listen – quite thy weeping –

Thou shalt know hardship, hunger and hail.

Hark! Companion Woman enticed?

But thou had the choice: resist or fail.

Woman, because thou sinned and rebelled,

Pain with child-bearing is on thee laid.

What? The snake’s whispers availed?

It is his fault, thou hast said?

Lo, his snake -like form shall writhe;

On his stomach he shall crawl

Because he faltered just as thee –

Played Messenger in the fall of all.

From this blissful Garden depart;

Begin anew in the land outside.

But heed – some creatures of My art

Have altered; their good nature died.”

“My Son, I do not regret My Creation.

I love them more than e’er before,

For although I see the future far,

Grace is My soul, and Love, My core.”
